I think the past is pretty important.
I also think it should be accessible.
This blog is about a lot of things, but it is mostly about the history and archaeology of North-western Europe in the first millennium AD. In particular, it’s about England, and how the concept of an English people even came about. I intend to present information, comment and debate on what I believe to be one of the most interesting periods of British (and European) history to as wide an audience as possible. Please let me know how you think I’m doing.
Quite a lot of it will also be about my life as a PhD researcher at the University of Reading, though. My name is Matt Austin and I like running, obsessing about the past and worrying about the future. I even sometimes get accused of being an archaeologist.
